Our Story

CommunityCraftCareers

The Guild was founded in 1998 by Roger Paulding with seven participants and has grown to more than 200 active members today. Over its first fifteen years, the Guild sponsored 36 workshops and six 2-day conferences. Roger led the group until 2013, when he passed the reins to Pamela Fagan Hutchins.  Pamela announced in that same year her vision to operate the organization on a nonprofit basis with the goal of passing the torch in one year to the next HWG member who wanted to do the same.  On September 17, 2014, Fernanda Brady and Denise Satterfield became the next stewards of the HWG.  Together they are gearing up to take the vision to the next level, striving to turn HWG into a non-profit organization.

 Mission Statement

The HWG is a community of Houston-area writers whose purpose is to support each other in the author’s craft and writing career through:

2.  Reciprocally sharing time, talent, and knowledge.

3.  Creating opportunities for the development of writing careers. (Through Conferences and Workshops)

4.  Celebrating the success of each as a success of all.

5.  Providing a platform through which members forge life-long relationships in writing and publishing, and

6.  Fostering a culture of continuous learning. (Through Conferences and Workshops)
